How is your Zero Waste business contributing to environmental sustainability? 🌱
"We want to make being zero-waste so easy that it's a no-brainer. We want to build a community of people that really care about zero-waste and can support others to move in the same direction. We're hoping that if people take the step to zero-waste their groceries and see how easy that is, they'll also start to do things like choose to bike rather than drive or take their hard-to-recycle materials to a specialist recycling center rather than put them in the trash.
So far, with our unique pre-fill model (our products are mostly prepackaged in reusable, returnable glass jars), we have saved over 160,000 pieces of packaging from being created, used and thrown into landfill."
What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs serious about sustainability and business? ✍️
"Stick to your values and mission. Know you'll have to compromise somewhere, and that you can't please all the people all the time."
What makes your no waste grocery business unique from other businesses? 🤔
"Most waste-free grocery stores are bulk stores where a) you have to spend ages refilling your own containers and b) they often have limited stock (no fresh food/produce etc.).
Nude Foods Market is different in that it's a full-service store offering everything from produce, prepared meals and groceries to cleaning products, body care and bulk. Plus, we offer a changing weekly menu of scratch-made prepared meals that go jar-to-table in 5 minutes—perfect for busy people.
We are also very strict on what we stock—almost no refined sugar, 99% of our products are vegan, and we focus heavily on local products.
We are trying to be as close to a traditional grocery store as possible while still being focused on our mission."
What would it be if you could get 85% of the world to adopt a single behavior? 🌎
"Refuse to buy products that are bad for the environment. That way, all these big corporations would HAVE to change the way they do business."
